Before knowing the scope of BS English one should know what is BS English. BS English is a 4-year course offered by HEC that teaches its students the professional way of writing and speaking. This course includes Semantics, Pragmatics, Morphology, Syntax, etc in its linguistic section and in literature it teaches Fiction, Short Fiction, Drama, Poetry, popular fiction, and much more. Along with the literature of Pakistan in English, he also learns the literature of British and America as well

The main aim of this course is to develop in its students a critical way of thinking and have a broader mindset. The student learns that the world around him isn’t perfect and thus through his philosophical and profound thinking he suggests ways to make the world a better place to live. The student also learns that communication skill is an integral part of society and thus polishing his writing, speaking, and listening skills would help him achieve more goals in his life.

 

Admission Criteria:

To get admission in BS, English one has to know that he can have any of the following degrees to apply for the universities (Private or Public) offering BS English. These are:

  • ·      Fsc (medical)
  • ·      Fsc (Pre-engineering)
  • ·      Fsc (ICS)
  • ·      I.Com
  • ·      FA, and
  • ·      Other diplomas equivalent to intermediate level


Eligibility Criteria:

Applying for Public Sectors would be harder than in the private sector because in public sectors they require marks above 70%, whereas in private sectors one can have his admission even if he has 50% barely passing marks.

  

Fee Schedule:

Talking about its fee schedule, public sector universities require 30,000 to 50,000 rupees whereas the private sector universities could require 50,000 to even one lac per semester.

This course promises its hardworking students a bright and high-paying career as a teacher, lecturer in schools or colleges and if that person continues to finish his Ph.D. and become a professor or a doctor, he could earn millions per month by just teaching in a good university.


There is a huge requirement for people who have BS English degrees in publishing institutions. They do editing, translation, proofreading, and their earnings could start from 30,000 rupees per month to even higher, given that they have mastery in their field.


 Foreign NGOs such as IFPARI, IMC, Iqra fund, Islamic Relief Worldwide, and many more require people who can understand and speak the English language well. These people act as a bridge between the organization and local people whom they are trying to help. So having a good command of the English language would most definitely help you get a job in one of those high-paying NGOs.

 

Media has become a very important part of our society. And is willing to pay a huge amount to those who would prove themselves to be unique in their analysis, their writing, content writing, and creative writing. Critical analysis is a huge part of the BS English course and the media channels are consistently looking for those who have a strong grip on criticism.

 

Blogging is another most important scope for BS English students. Only knowing the language isn’t enough for making a living in this field. One must also know about politics, sociology, psychology, anthropology, social sciences, and many other types of knowledge related to the specific niche one writes on in his blogs. A BS English student, because of his grip on the language and professional writing, would be able to write those blogs more professionally than anyone else out there.


BS English student also has a good advantage over the others when he is in a competitive exam like CSS, PCS, PMS, FPSC, PPSC, etc. Everyone who gives these tests especially CSS, says that the English part and more specifically the English essay part was the most difficult one, so a student who would have a degree in English would most likely attempt that part with much ease than anyone else in that examination hall.


There are also a huge number of opportunities for BS English students to apply for government jobs in organizations such as NADRA, WAPDA, Foreign Service of Pakistan, Federal Public Service Commission, etc. Students of BS English could also apply for these government institutions and along with the high pay, they will also have other benefits such as medical, educational, and pension when they become old.


There are also foreign mission jobs that require its, applicants, to promote peace, stability, and prosperity while also bringing forward the interests of the country to the foreign countries. A country pays a huge chunk from its income to its foreign missions. BS English students could also apply for these kinds of jobs and would also be able to travel to other countries. Foreign mission jobs are more likely to be found in cities such as Islamabad and Karachi, mostly in Islamabad.
