Oral Communication Skills in English with Ramiz Raja

Interview with Ramiz Raja about his commentary

In an interview with a BS-English undergraduate student Syed Asad Ali, the Chairman of PCB Rameez Raja told that in order to become a successful commentator you should focus on one thing, your Oral Communication Skills, and more specifically how to improve your oral communication skills.

The Legendary Pakistani Commentator told that “Confidence” is the main key as well as the biggest obstacle for one to become a fluent speaker and as well as to become the best commentator ever. According to him, if you want to convey your feeling or your opinion on a certain matter, it is very much important for you to throw away your shyness and thoughts about how others will take what you just said.

He also said that the trick that he used and still does is to use Google search to improve his vocabulary. He said that if you come across a word that most likely relates to your field of interest, try to search for that word’s meaning, its pronunciation, and how you can use that word in your own sentences.

On being asked about how much surroundings affects one’s fluency in speech communication, he replied by saying that the surrounding does matter a lot but it doesn’t mean that one should just give up only because his surrounding isn’t English one, instead what he should do is, he should try to communicate with sheer confidence and with a purpose of trying to upskill his communication skills no matter what.

He also told that he was very much fortunate to have teachers who taught him in Sadiq Public School Bahawalpur, Aitchison College Lahore, and Government College University Lahore. He said that what he is now is all because of them. In the end, he told that education has nothing to do with you being a good English speaker, it’s not the tenses that you cram from your textbooks, instead, it is the practice that you do in your practical life that makes the difference.
